Ling: Ridiculous to brand DAP a communist party

Ling (left) obliges a supporter with a wefie during his walkabout.

MIRI (Dec 2): Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak secretary Alan Ling said it is ridiculous to label the party as a ‘communist’ party as it has never been associated with any communist parties or ideals since it was set up in 1965 and spread to Sarawak in 1978.

“We are a multi racial party and our struggle is for Malaysians. We are not race-based party like Umno or PBB,” he said when met during a walkabout in Miri town centre recently.

During the walkabout, he visited Tamu Muhibbah, Tamu Khas and Tamu Kedayan.

He pointed out DAP’s assemblymen and MPs are made up of various races including Chinese, Malay, Indians and there are Dayaks among its members and officials.

DAP is just like any other parties approved by the Registrar of Society (ROS) and their main objective is to fight for the peoples’ right he said.

“This is the legitimate cause which is being pursued by the party. A party which is based on a democratic system and principles of freedom, as enshrined in the constitution,” he said.

He added that the party had been well received by various races due to its goals as well as strong principles and is increasingly becoming a challenge to its opponents.

“I’m sure voters will have the wisdom and maturity to personally see this and not be influenced by fake information about us. We are a party for all races, all level of community and we will continue to fight for the people, especially the poor and the oppressed.

“We will not oppose for the sake of opposing, but will play our roles as a vocal opposition to check and balance, by providing critical suggestion. If given the chance to be the ruling party, we are prepared to rule with integrity and effectively for the benefit of the people

“I can feel that we are more acceptable by non-Chinese now. They are aware that we are not as what we were painted to be by our opponents, because the people are capable of assessing us, especially when such information is easily accessible nowadays,” he said further.

Ling was announced as DAP candidate for Pujut and he foresee that the coming 12th State Election will be an uphill battle as the pandemic will lead to low voter turnout.

However, Ling said he and the other two DAP candidates for Miri, Marcus Hugo for Senadin and Peter Hee in Piasau have been working consistently to garner support from the people.
