KUCHING (Dec 2): A viral video clip showing an accident between a pickup truck and a car at the Asajaya bridge on Nov 29 was not a hit-and-run incident, said Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department head Supt Alexson Naga Chabu.
According to him, the 29-year-old pickup truck driver had in fact left the accident scene for the nearest police station as he feared for his personal safety in the aftermath of the collision.
“The pickup truck driver from Batu Kawa claimed that villagers who witnessed the accident wanted to hurt him.
“However, the pickup truck experienced engine problems following the accident and stalled at the side of the road near Kampung Baru,” said Alexson in a statement yesterday.
The drivers of the two vehicles involved have since lodged police reports at the Samarahan district police headquarters, he added.
The driver of the car, a 41-year-old man from Kampung Semera Hilir, Sadong Jaya, did not suffer any injuries in the collision.
Alexson said at the time of the 4pm incident, the car was headed towards Sadong Jaya from Asajaya when it was struck by the pickup truck, which had entered the opposite side of the road at the bend leading to the bridge.
