Motac deputy sec-gen: US$350,000 allocated for 7 cultural projects

Saraya (sixth right) along with Abdul Karim (seventh left) and the Asean delegates join hands to signify the bond between Asean countries.

KUCHING (July 30): An allocation of US$350,000 (estimated RM1,558,341.37) has been approved by the Asean Committee for Culture and Information (Asean-Coci) for seven cultural projects during the 23rd Asean Sub-Committee on Culture (SCC) meeting on July 27.

According to Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) deputy secretary-general (Culture) Datuk Saraya Arbi, the project scope includes the protection, conservation and preservation of cultural heritage and production of cultural showcases as a means to contribute towards the socio-economic wellbeing of the local community, the people.

“Together with our friends and partners from the Plus Three countries, China, Japan and South Korea, Asean will further strengthen our regional identity and cooperation in the cultural fields, hence the APTCCN acronym,” she said in her speech at the 23rd SCC and 11th Asean Plus Three Cultural Cooperation Network (APTCCN) meeting gala dinner in a hotel here on Thursday.

In uttering this, Saraya shared her delight in seeing Sarawak as a ‘mini’ Malaysia, a land with diverse ethnic groups and tribes who live together harmoniously.

Before concluding her speech, Saraya thanked the organising committee and all of the Asean countries representatives for their roles in making the programme a hit.

“I would also like to show my appreciation to the Sarawak State Government; Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts; relevant departments and agencies for your support and commitment in making the SCC and APTCCN meetings a success,” she said.

Also present were Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, DBKU Datuk Bandar Datu Junaidi Reduan, Asean secretariat Dr Erica Paula and delegates of the Asean countries.
