KUCHING (Feb 4): Some 60 Christian members of the legal fraternity here attended a special service today at the St Thomas’ Cathedral to mark the opening of the New Legal Year 2023.
According to lawyer Desmond Sahathevan, who is this year’s event organiser, the service was for judges, lawyers, judicial officers and even pupils.
“The service is to bless the coming year for the legal profession and ask for God’s blessing and guidance to do what is right for the people we represent and for the public. The service is for thanksgiving as well,” he said when met by reporters after the one-hour service.
Desmond added that the legal fraternity will try to hold this special service every year.

“This is the third time this event is held in this cathedral. The Roman Catholic Church has the Red Mass also and I believe it will be held next Saturday,” he said.
This year’s event was themed: ‘Let justice flow like a stream and righteousness like a river that never goes dry’ from Amos 5:24.
During the service, Dean Revd Kho Thong Meng led a preamble, while Revd Canon Michael Spencer Woods delivered a sermon.
