KUCHING (Dec 20): Armada Bersatu Sarawak, or the youth wing of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Sarawak, hopes the party can contest three parliamentary seats in the state in the coming 15th General Election (GE15).
This was expressed by its chief Alexander Frusis during the Armada Bersatu’s 3rd Annual General Assembly, as he requested for Bersatu to defend the seats of Puncak Borneo and Saratok as well as another seat to be contested by a party youth leader.
“I would like to ask the party’s leadership to seek early finalisation of seat negotiations for Bersatu Sarawak, so that the candidates can start their ground work early.
“The two seats already held by Bersatu or Perikatan Nasional (PN) should be retained by us. At the same time, I sincerely hope that at least one more seat can be allocated and to be contested by a candidate from Armada Bersatu,” he said, pointing out that having a young candidate would allow the voice of Sarawak youths to be heard in the Dewan Rakyat if elected.
He stated that in the just concluded 12th State Election, Bersatu Sarawak machinery gave their full support to all 82 Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidates despite not being allocated a seat to contest according to the agreement between Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“This shows a big-hearted political maturity practiced by Bersatu. At the same time, we also uphold the need for strong and stable politics at both the state and federal levels,” he said.
Muhyiddin, who is also PN chairman, had told a press conference in Kuching that both PN and GPS have agreed to both coalitions working together in the GE15.
The former prime minister had said Bersatu may contest in parliamentary seats where its members are the incumbents.
“We have an understanding that for the state polls we’ll support GPS, but for GE15, we will also arrive at an understanding because there are some candidates from PN and Bersatu who are currently holding parliamentary seats in Sarawak,” he had said as quoted in media reports.
